Dr. Workman’s professional focus is on the performance of equine athletes. She enjoys multi-limb, training problems, and cases that do not fit within a simple diagnostic bubble. Our goal is always to get to the root of the concern, addressing the problem head on and addressing the movement and compensation concerns that go along with complicated lameness. We offer a full range of diagnostic services, regenerative treatments and alternative therapies. We never want our clients to feel their case is rushed so we promise a complete exam and the time it takes to get to the bottom of your horse’s concern.
Performance Horse Care:
It is our belief that these top athletes need to be cared for as such. Our performance horse packages include routine performance exams (quarterly to monthly), farrier radiographs twice yearly, organization between team members (fitness work/chiropractic/acupuncture/massage/laser ex). This close management allows for earlier direction of concerns and no detail to be overlooked. We know owners and trainers are busy- we want to make sure your horse’s soundness and performance care is covered! Our goal is to identify things BEFORE they become a problem!
Denali is committed to providing a detailed horse specific rehab plan to address all of your horses needs. This means addressing the rehab concern but also the horses temperament, nuances, compensation concerns, gastrointestinal health and overall wellbeing. We never expect any rehab to fit within a specific program or set up. This means we often try different stall, turn out, feeding, neighbor and schedule changes to make sure each horse in our care receives the best chance of healing. Rehabs get daily grooming, injury appropriate exercise and attention as well as weekly progress exams by Dr. Workman. This intensive management allows horses to progress further in a shorter amount of time by increasing or decreasing the horses program exactly when they need and not by a pre-set plan.
Denali Equine is committed to horses getting the best care during their stay. This often includes bringing in other specialists and therapists. We are used to an open team setting and welcome your veterinarian to be a part of the plan! We would love to chat with you about the best way to get your horse back in action!
We believe it’s time the equestrian world treats their horses as the top athletes they are! This means we encourage a team for your horse. The rider, trainer, farrier, and vet are all parts of the team. We believe a fitness specialist should also be a part of the team. Our fitness plans are designed to help horses overcome their weak points and compensation patterns. We work with specific physical therapy exercises to improve your horses overall conditioning. Including dressage exercises, pole work, proprioception, and adaptability work. Fitness cases can be arranged as in house cases, haul ins or at your facility. Clinics are also offered.
This never replaces the need for a trainer in your team but can help look at the horse’s movement from a different perspective. We love collaborating to help your team reach its goals!
This is the backbone of our rehab and fitness programs. The aqua treadmill provides the opportunity to cross train. Benefits include: Low impact, high resistance exercise, ability to target specific muscle groups or joints, improve topline strength and flexibility, encourage straightness, improve range of motion and increase cardiovascular conditioning. The treadmill is also an excellent diagnostic aid as we can watch the horse from all directions in a stationary point. The narrowness of the treadmill allows us to identify imbalances and abnormal limb flight patterns. It is an excellent early indicator of concerns for top performance horses. Aqua-treadmill is open for ship-in appointments as well as in-house cases.
